Is Constant Bad Breath In Mouth A Symptom Of Dehydration?

default
Posted on Sat, 23 Jul 2016
Question: I have constant bad breath. I floss everyday and use a tongue scrubber. I brush a few times a day and use mouthwash. Nothing seems to help! Could it be that I'm always so dehydrated? Or dieting?

Brief Answer:
Dehydration and dieting both can be the culprits.

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain bad breath can occur due to a number of causes and although you maintain a good oral hygiene, but in case if it is originating due to other conditions and diseases then oral hygiene maintenance will not resolve the problem..

In case if you are dehydrated and also do dieting both these causes can cause bad breath as due to dehydration there can be dryness in mouth and will cause insufficient flushing of debris from the mouth and it will lead to more of bacterial and fungal growth that will finally cause bad breath..

Secondly dieting causes reduced carbohydrate intake and there is fat breakdown leading to production of certain chemicals like ketones leading to bad breath..

Thirdly retainer can cause a bit of problem like deposits on teeth and can cause bad breath..

I would also like to know a few more details for better understanding of you condition and will advise you accordingly..

1.Do you experience dryness in mouth?
2.Do you have digestive problems?
3.Is there any white coating on tongue?
4.Do you have any symptoms like congestion in nose, post nasal drip, pain on face etc that can point towards sinus infection?
5.Have you ever experienced tonsil stones?
6.Any symptoms of heart burn or bitter fluid coming in mouth?
7.Do you take any medication or do you have any medical problem?

If you have any other information, you can add the same..

Please revert back with answers..

Thanks and regards.
