Is Continuous Coughing Normal In Pneumonia?
Question: Hello. My 2 yr 11month old daughter had a bad cough four days ago. She had high fever only at night with continuous coughing. My wife and I administered azithromicin 200mg/5ml once a day which we kept at home for four days. We also gave benylin cough syrup for pain and fever. Today i went to see a doctor and he said she has pnemonia. "?" He administered 5ml ceftriaxone IM and gave amoxicilin trihydrate USP 200mg and calvulanate potassium USP 28.5mg oral syrup. For 5 days. Is this normal for pneumonia ? I was under the inpression that pnemonia is a very serious case. I thought it could have been bronchitis or a broncho type symptom. Please advise. Thank you.

Pneumonias can be graded as severe or non severe.
The severe types where one may experience breathlessness difficulty in breathing and requiring extra supply of oxygen should be treated in a hospital.
Without seeing the child i cannot comment whether she really had pneumonia or it was just a lower respiratory tract infection.
How ever if your child is showing improvement with the ongoing treatment prescribed by your doctor, then do not worry
The treatment what your doctor has given is normal.
If the child were to be admitted in a hospital set up, the same treatment would be given through an intravenous route.
