Is Decrease In Monocyte Count Alarming?

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Jan 2022
Question: Hello Doctor,

I am a 27 year old female. I recently got a master health check up done. I see a few variations in the reports. 1. Monocytes count is 32 cells/uL where as the reference range is mentioned as 200-950 cells/uL 2. Vitamin D count is 6.20 where as the reference range is 30-100 ng/ml Are these values alarming? Is there any treatment required?

Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
Vitamin D supplement is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing your query.
Decrease in Monocyte can be seen in certain infections and other medical conditions. Full blood report(including Complete Blood Count (CBC)) is needed to comment on that.
Your Vitamin D levels are significantly low and needs medical management.
I would advise that you should take Vitamin D supplement 60K units once a day for a week and then once a week for 4 weeks. It is available in different forms in the market like oral capsules, chewable tablets or in the powder form in sachets.
You can take any one from these and start as per the dose mentioned above.
Add milk/curd products in your diet. Do outdoor activities as sun is the natural source of Vitamin D.
I hope this is helpful to you. If you have any further query, I will be happy to help.
Regards. Thanks.

Not significant

Hi,
Thanks for your response.
Since your monocyte % in comparision to total WBC is in normal range, it is not significant.
Continue with Vitamin supplement as advised earlier.
I hope this answers your query. If you have any further doubts, please mention.
