Is Dilated Kidneys Of My Baby The Potential Cause Of Polyhydramnios?

Question: I was just diagnosed w/ polyhydramnios. I've been having difficulty breathing and my lower abdominal pain has been persistent. I drive to work everday and most days i get stuck in traffic for 1 hr and 45 mins or 2 hrs sometimes. It's getting too difficult for me to drive that far one way with all the discomforts im having. Since the diagnosis few days ago, I'm scared that i could go in preterm labor anytime. I'm on my 32 week of pregnancy. Should i stop working now. Does that help in reducing risk of preterm labor. Also, ultrasound on my 32 weeks showed that my baby's kidneys are dilated. This was already an observation on my 3 months ultrasound. Is the dilated kidneys of my baby the potential cause of the polyhydramnios?
Brief Answer:
Avoid driving for so long.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
maternal diabetes and fetal malformations are associated with polyhydramnios. The dilatation of kidneys can be associated with other defects that can cause polyhydramnios.
At 32 weeks the chances of having a preterm labor are considerably increased. It is best to take a leave and stop exposing yourself to so much of exertion. Taking rest will decrease the chances of preterm labor.

Thank you Dr for your response.
You said the dilatation of baby's kidneys can be associated w/ other defects that can cause polyhydramnios. Can you explain this further? Will there be risks w/ the baby during and after delivery? Are there some prenatal tests that can be done w/ the baby to further analze the kidney issue? Are there treatments that can be done now for baby's kidneys?
I had Harmony tests for determining genetic abnormalities w/ the baby and results all came normal no issues. Then i did Gestational Diabetes on my 26th week also came normal. I was asked to do GD test again last Saturday and im now waiting for the results. If it comes out normal again then the potential cause would be still unknown. What other possibilities that might cause the polyhydramnios when all these tests are ok?
What's the chance that i will deliver Ceasarian? Are all cases of plyhydramnios deliver earlier than predicted due dates?
Thanks,
Brief Answer:
Likely to be idiopathic.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Polyhydramnios is associated with defects like cleft lip or palate esophageal atresia etc. Some of the defects can be detected only after the birth of the baby. There are no specific tests that can evaluate the kidney issues. It can be evaluated and treated only after the birth of the baby.
Since your other prenatal tests have come normal the chances of having any other defects in the baby are minimal. Polyhydramnios is idiopathic in almost 20% of cases.
The chances of cesarean delivery are difficult to predict. Dilatation of kidneys or polyhydramnios itself does not predispose you to a higher chance of cesarean delivery.
Hope my answer is helpful.
