Is Dry Skin An Important Skin Manifestation Of Post Menopausal State?

Hi. I am 55. Post-menopausal.
I have very dry itchy skin but just on my left arm. I scratch to the point of bleeding at night (waking up with blood on sheet). My hair is also dry. I have tried Moo Goo, Bepanthin, Dermacort 1%, cool showers, showering second daily, antihistamines, and some dietary changes. I have a history of thyroid storm but blood tests (general) results don't alert my GP. Any suggestions please? Many thanks. XXXXXXX
Dry skin related to thyroid disturbances.
Detailed Answer:
Hello, Madam.
I understand your concern.
Many of your symptoms are related to hypothyroid disorder.
Dry skin is an important skin manifestation of hypothyoidism as well as Post menopausal state.
Dermacort 1% can be stopped.
Continue with Moo Goo,Bepanthin.
I generally prescribe Aveeno Daily Moisturisng cream and Oral tablets of Omega fatty acid supplements(NOVORET) and Zinc(BECOZINC) for my patients. This has excellent results. Please check with your doctor if he shares my view and if can prescribe it to you.
Antihistamines can be continued as usuall.
Maintain thyroid hormones under normal limits.
Dryness of hair can be prevented by thrice weekly oil hair spa. This is an excellent option.
Further investigative work up is not needed.
Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
