Is Elevated Heart Rate Upon Awakening From Sleep Every Once In A While Something To Be Concerned About?
1. I have an elevated heartrate - approximately 90 beats / minute [which I have measured] but my blood pressure seems close to normal [about 120/80]
2. then after some time [maybe 1 hour or so] the heartrate comes down to 80 beats/minute
3. this has happened on & off for several months - maybe more than a year - it doesn't happen every day - but a few days a week
Is this something to be concerned about ?
I would explain as follows:
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I passed carefully through your question and would explain that these heart rate fluctuations are quite normal and they do not indicate any serious medical conditions .
They are related to a physiological reaction during waking up ( which is a kind of stress for the body which has been resting during the night), leading to the activation of the sympathetic nervous system, causing increased levels of adrenaline and noradrenaline.
Cortisol levels are elevated too, during waking up.
This situation is usually normalized in a couple of hours.
So, there is nothing to worry about!
