Is Enteric Coated Aspirin Better In Preventing Clots?
Enteric coated is better for regular use and non acute setting
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Enteric coating is a new technology wherein the coated aspirin, known to cause gastric bleeding and ulcers, prevents break down in stomach instead does its work when it reaches duodenum. It takes another 15 to 20 minutes to reach duodenum.
It slowly disintegrates thereby protects the stomach lining from damage thereby fewer bleeds and less salicylate levels.
In my practice I prescribe enteric coated for non emergency setting like Arthritis etc. For acute setting like MI, after angioplasty and unstable Angina I give regular one. In your case it is for secondary prevention of clots you can take enteric coated variant as you have to take it for long term.
