I read this is a slow growing cancer. Is that true?

I had a upper endoscophy 18 months ago and it was compleley normal. Should i be worried in this short amount of time. Been having like chest pain behind my breast bone for a month.

Brief Answer:
CT scan chest

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Esophogeal cancer are slow growing tumours and may grow for many years before any symptoms are felt.

Smoking and drinking alcohol are risks factors for esophageal cancer.

Though your upper endocopy 18 months ago was normal but since you are having chest pain behind your breast bone for a month i will advise u to do a CT scan of chest.

If any lesion is found in the scan then to go for a upper GI endoscopy followed by a biopsy.

Hope i have answered your query.

But would it form in that short of time? How long do these things grow before they are noticeable.

An upper gi last year would not have ruled it out?

Someone told me that if you have a upper gi in the last 5 years that it would be ruled out.

Brief Answer:
yearly scans

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Esophageal cancer takes around 1 year time to grow before they are noticeable.

CT chest and upper GI endoscopy should be done yearly.

Your last scan was in march last year and more than 1 year has passed since and since you are having chest pain i would recommend a fresh CT chest.
