Is Excessive Sleep A Side Effect Of Benedryl?

Question: My husband played golf yesterday. After showeering he complained about his left hand hurting to the point he could not bend his middle finger. I had him soak in Epsom salts. Rub Joint Flex on it. FInally it began to swell and I thought Allergic reaction to a bug bite. So i gave him benedryl (sp) and he went to bed. He slept all night, got up this morning ate breakfast and then went back to bed where he has slept the entire day away. What should i do?
Brief Answer:
Benedryl's effect possibly
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,
I appreciate your concern for your husband,
If the pain and swelling have subsided then there is no need to worry. Benedryl can have sedative effects as would lead to the increased sleep. No further intervention is required at this moment in my view.
Wishing both of you best of health. Let me know if I could assist you further.
Thanks
