Is Ferritin Value Of 4 In Blood A Cause For Concern?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: My daughter is 21 and was recently diagnosed with low ferritin (4). She went to see the doctor initially for blood in her stool. Many theories from Crohn's disease to intestinal disorders came up so they have ordered an immediate colonoscopy which they are performing tomorrow. Are there specific questions we should ask the Doctor performing the procedure before and after the scope? Isn't she awfully young for Chron's disease?
Brief Answer:
Her age is not abnormal for Crohns, and I would wait for the results.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM. Please note that you should wait for the results, as rightfully stated it can be ulcerative colitis, also, but her age is right at the peak of what we call a bi-modal distribution where it appears in early 20's and then again in the 60's. They will take biopsies of the intestines and also see if there is any XXXXXXX bleeding. Otherwise the preliminary testing will yield more answers and give a better direction to proceed, i hope this helps you out. Good luck
