Is Flagyl Augmentin Safe To Give For Bad Chest?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
I don't recommend....
Detailed Answer:
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.
I assume you are asking whether you should use antibiotics. Flagyl is Metronidazole which doesn't help in chest infections and Augmentin is a higher antibiotic which should not be used unnecessarily.
Cough and cold are viral 95% of the times in children. For cold you can use anti-allergics like cetirizine and for nose block, saline nasal decongestants will do. Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly, that too only if fever is more than 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.
For cold you can use Cetrizine at 0.25mg/kg/dose every 12 hourly for 3 days.
For nasal block, plain saline nasal drops will do, every 4-6th hourly to relive nasal congestion.
Kindly mention his weight so that I could suggest you the formulations.
In the nut shell, I do not recommend the use of flagyl or augmentin in this case unless your doctor have considered the causes and prescribed it now.
Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.

Formulation suggestion
Detailed Answer:
Based on her weight I would start on the following:
Paracetamol syrup- 125 (125mg/5ml) 4ml by mouth every 4 to 6th hourly only if temperature is more than 100F.
Cetrizine syrup (2.5mg/5ml) 2.5ml once a day at night by mouth for 3 days
Nasivion-S nasal drops 1 drop in each nostril if there is nasal block as frequently as needed.
I would assess her condition based on her breathing, feeding ability and skin colour. I would be very concerned if she develops fast breathing, inability to feed, bluish discolouration of lips or fingers, if she is preferring to sleep. Emergency treatment at a hospital is needed at the earliest. So let me know if she has any of the aforementioned warning signs.
I wish your kid a speedy recovery. If you need any future medical consultation and suggestions, I will be glad to help. You can approach me at the following link. Please find the link below.
