Is Gall Bladder Removal Necessary For Polyp In Gall Bladder?
Question: If a polyp is found in gall bladder , would the whole gall bladder need removing ?
Brief Answer:
depends on size of polyp
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic .
It depends upon size of polyp. If polyp is more then 1cm size or any family member having cancer of gall bladder or it is causing pain in right upper abdomen then whole gall bladder needs to be removed as chances of cancer would be more and of recurrence too.
If polyp is less then 1cm size and there is no family member suffering from gall bladder cancer then no treatment needed. Just followup ultrasound may be done yearly and treatment depends if there is growth of polyp.
Hope I have answered your query . If any further queries are there I would love to help.
