Question: Is Bacterial vaginittis a std or Gardnerella viginittis a std ? On metronidazole 500 ?

Hello,

how a woman contracts gardnerella is not clear but sexual contact is required. This is not considered to be a STD (like the rest of STD) though, since the mode of transmission is unknown. Multiple sexual partners definitely contribute to acquiring gardnerella and abstinence from sex makes sure the woman won't have it. Treating the partner does not help which perhaps is an indication that it's not the partner's "fault".

Metronidazole for one week is the primary regimen against gardnerella.

As I've told you, we don't know how this disease is contracted but sexual contacts are required. Continuing metronidazole treatment will probably eradicate it.
