Is "grade 2 Prostatomegaly" Curable?
Is it curable?,
Treated by medication first
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
The prostate is a small potato like structure between the urinary bladder and penis in men. A small part of urethra (tube through which urine passes) passes through the prostate. When the prostate enlarges, it causes pressure on the bladder and urethra leading to difficulty in voiding, feeling of not able to empty bladder completely and frequent urge to urinate.
On ultrasound, grading of prostatomegaly is made by the following measurements.
Grade I - 25 - 30 Grams.
Grade II - 30 - 50 Grams.
Grade III- 50 - 80 Grams.
Grade IV - 85 Grams and above
At Grae II your prostate volume is 30 - 50 grams and it will be mentioned in the ultrasound report. The post void residue also plays a role in knowing the amount of pressure on the bladder and urethra.
Treatment for grade II involves taking medications like finasteride (a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor). This has given good results in many patients.
You must get repeat ultrasound every 6 months or a year and follow up with your doctor for medications.
Surgery is usually not done for grade II.
Hope your query is answered.
Please write back if you have any doubts.

And, Is the prostrate gland will enlarge due to urine infection??
Please find details below
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
Prostate should be less than 25 cc in volume.
Infection in urinary tract does not cause enlarged prostate. Enlarged prostate leads to urinary infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
The medication ALFOO 10 (alfuzosin) will work to reduce the size of prostate. It might take time and you should get ultrasound done regularly.
There is no chance of prostate cancer with PSA level of 1.28 but you must repeat the test every year.
Hope your query is answered.
