Is Heart Rate Of 100 Bpm A Cause For Concern?

I would explain as follows:
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome on HCM!
Regarding your recent clinical scenario, I would like to explain that first of all it is important to differentiate your actual heart rhythm: is it just a sinus tachycardia (which may be a compensatory reaction to dehydration due to diarrhea), or we are in front of a cardiac arrhythmia (such as atrial fibrillation, etc. due to any blood electrolytes imbalance as a consequence of diarrhea).
In this regard, I would suggest discussing with your attending doctor on the possibility of performing a resting ECG and some additional tests:
- complete blood count (to exclude anemia),
- PCR & ESR (inflsmmation),
- blood electrolytes level (to exclude any potassium imbalance),
- BUN & creatinine
- stool microbiological tests
IF only a sinus tachycardia is present, than an adequate re-hydration and correction of any potential electrolytes imbalances (by taking oral fluids rich in potassium; ex.fruits juices) would be enough.
But, if a persistent cardiac arrhythmia is present,
then a more close medical management (ER service of in-hospital settings) would be the right therapeutic approach for overcoming this situation.
You should also know that even Flecainide may be a reason of diarrhea (1%-3%).
Hope to have been helpful to you!
In case of any further uncertainties, feel free to ask me again.
Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri

Opinion as follows:
Detailed Answer:
Hello again!
I would recommend utilizing around 1 liter orally (with several portion apart to avoid stomach distension). If the fast heart rate doesn't disappear in a couple of hour (after such re-hydration), then you should follow the above mentioned recommendations.
Wishing you a pleasant weekend!

Dr. Iliri
