Question: My resting heart rate is 96 bpm I've taken it a few times to be sure. I'm 55 yrs old. Is this dangerous?

Brief Answer: not necessarily Detailed Answer: it all depends. Normal heart rate is anything between 60 and 90 beats per minute. Heart rate should be regular (same length of time between each beat). Yours is just a little over normal, and could be due to many reasons. First of all it could be something your drank or ate (such as caffeine, alcohol), smoking, it could also mean you are slightly dehydrated, or exercised yourself too much, or you may be anemic, or have hormonal imbalance (usually thyroid). If your blood pressure is normal, and you otherwise feel ok, i would just monitor it daily, and visit your primary care physician for further evaluation. If your heart rate remains elevated you may need an EKG, thyroid testing, blood counts (CBC), etc, at your doctor's discretion.
