Brief Answer:
Its considered a burning type pain

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Yes, heart burn can be considered a burning type of pain, though actual pain of ulcer is gnawing type of pain. Mild heartburns are not a cause of concern. Difference in conditions is based on clinical presentation and other symptoms (not just pain).

Hope this answers your doubt. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
Yes, GERD can have stomach ache but will also have sore throat

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Dyspepsia (indigestion) or epigastric (upper central part of abdomen) pain can be caused by GERD, gastritis, ulcer disease, pancreatitis and non-ulcer dyspepsia. There are some basic differences between symptoms of GERD and others:- GERD has sore throat, bad acid-like taste in mouth, hoarseness, cough, wheezing. GERD is most likely to have pain in substernal (below the chest bone) region.

Take precautions mainly

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Treatment involves reducing esophageal reflux, helping food down the food pipe, protect food pipe from acid. My suggestion would be as follows:

- Avoid foods and medicines that relax esophageal sphincter- namely chocolates, coffee, alcohol, fatty foods and some medicines (calcium channel, blockers, anticholinergics, sleep medicines, etc.)
- Dietary modifications like avoiding spicy foods, avoid alcohol, avoid fatty foods that contain more of butter and ghee, Drink cleaner water and take hygienic food, take more of fruits and milk, take thicker foods, take meals at same time everyday
- Elevate head side of bed, take a walk after meals, Do not lie down at least 2 hours after food
- Avoid alcohol, smoke etc.
- Medicines to be tried in the following order of preference: antacids like Digene after meals are to be preferred, if antacids do not control symptoms then Tab Ranitidine 300 mg half hour before dinner. Omeprazole, Domperidone, surgery are other options
