Is Homocysteine Value Of 40 A Cause For Concern?
Question: I have gone through medical tests 2 days back. It was regular complete checkup and in the results it is mentioned that HEMOCYSTEINE value is at 40. I think the normal range is <30. So what does this value mean? What should I do to control this. And is 40 value is too high to get alerted immediately? And can this be controlled if proper medication or dietary changes are done. Please help!
Brief Answer:
Dont need to be alerted
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for your query.
The value of homocysteine 40 is not too high to be alerted immediately.
High homocysteine value is considered to be a risk factor for coronary artery disease. But not to be worried too much.
It develops due to vitamin B deficiency, so you can try taking vegetables and fruits. You can also try vitamin B complex tablets and recheck the values in 6 months. Avoid fatty foods like cream, butter, ghee, etc.
Hope it helps.

Thank you. Any specific fruits or vegetables that I should be consuming more?
Thank you.
Thank you.
Brief Answer:
A balanced diet
Detailed Answer:
Hi again
Mostly fruits and vegetables that are high in carotenoids (and yellow or green in colour) will be helpful like salad with green leafy vegetables, XXXXXXX carrot, sweet potato, apricot, peas, etc.
To get vitamin folate, B6 and B12 supplements would be a better choice.
