Is Hypomania A Fatal Illness?

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Jul 2015
Question: Is it uncommon to live in a state of hypo-mania safely? I've been on 150mg for 2 1/2 yrs on Venlafaxine. I've been bi-polor since i was 25 yrs old. I've been on 13 different anti-depressants in 40 yrs - this drug is the first one to givr mr a life i didn't dream was possible. I'm very aware of when i feel manic and am having recing thoughts. I'm a very rapid cycler. I stop what i'm doing and consciously make myself slow down. I feel blessed. What are your thoughts or concerns you can share with me?

Yes it is

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
Hypomania is per se is a safe illness and will not lead to any major problems. Many people continue in a fixed hypomanic state for years and experience in creased functionality and productivity. Its good that finally you have recovered from depression and heading as hypomania. You need to understand that there is always a risk for mania and this needs to be watched for. Better would be to continue on venlafaxine along with a mood stabilizer like divalproex sodium (500mg-1000mg) or lithium (400mg-800mg).
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
