Is Increasing Severe Pain During A Bowel Movement In The Anal Region A Serious Concern?

Question: I just had a bowel movement. I had to push, but not hard. No blood was present. As I was pushing my anus became painful, a few seconds later I finished, but the pain did not stop. Instead it became worse and worse. I rate the pain at 6 or 7 out of 10. The pain made me break out in a cold sweat. The pain lasted for 3-5 minutes before slowly subsiding. During this time the pain also spread to my testicles. Bending over made the pain worse. 10-20 minutes later I feel no pain.

I would like to get a sense how urgent it is to follow up with a doctor in person. i.e. can I wait to talk to my primary care doctor in the next few days, go to urgent care tomorrow morning, or get to an ER right now?

Brief Answer:
Possible anal fissure

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir

I can certainly understand your concern.

I have worked through your attached query in detail

As per your symptoms, the possibility of an anal fissure or internal hemorrhoids is very high.

These issues arise in the setting of constipation.

This is not a medical emergency.

I generally prescribe laxatives like Isphagula and analgesics to my patients with such symptoms for 2 weeks.

Please check with your physician if he shares my view and if can prescribe these medications to improve your symptoms.

It's extremely important not to strain while passing stools as the condition may worsen.

Maintain adequate hydration by drinking 2 to 3 liters of water a day.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you
