Brief Answer:
Yes, it is likely to develop an allergy to blue food XXXXXXX with age

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service,

I carefully read your query and understand your concern.

Theoretically, any chemical has the potential to cause an allergic reaction. Even though allergic reactions to food dyes are very rare, they may still happen. So, it is likely to develop an allergic reaction to blue food XXXXXXX with age.

In cases of an allergic reaction, once you develop it, you will regularly develop an allergic reaction when you are in contact with the allergen (the chemical that causes an allergic reaction). This means that if you have developed an allergy to the blue XXXXXXX you will get the allergic reaction any time you are in contact with it.

If you notice such a relationship between the use of blue XXXXXXX and the development of an allergic reaction, you may need to avoid further using it as sometimes future reactions may be more severe with repeat exposure.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Brief Answer:
There are different ways an allergic reaction may represent and in some cases, gastrointestinal symptoms may be the presentation of an allergy

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome back,

Allergic reactions are of different types. If a chemical is taken by mouth, it may cause an allergic reaction only with gastrointestinal symptoms or it may cause a skin rash or in some cases, it may cause an anaphylactic reaction.

The anaphylactic reaction is rare but it is very severe and can be life-threatening. It is the most severe form of an allergic reaction. A chemical may in the beginning cause only mild forms of an allergic reaction such as a skin rash or gastrointestinal symptoms and may latter, with repeat exposure, cause an anaphylactic reaction. This is why it is important to avoid further exposure, to avoid any possible severe reaction.

I hope this answers your query.

Is it possible that an allergy to food XXXXXXX would be causing gastritis? I also have GERD and have read that can also be a factor.

Brief Answer:
Detailed answer below

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome back,

It is possible to have gastritis due to food XXXXXXX allergy. On the other hand, there are other causes of gastritis as well so the presence of gastritis does not confirm that you have an allergic reaction to food XXXXXXX

This is why I mentioned above the relation between exposure to food XXXXXXX and the gastrointestinal symptoms. If you get gastrointestinal symptoms when you have not used food XXXXXXX then other causes of gastritis should be considered as well.

GERD and gastritis are very commonly found together and may happen even without any allergic reaction.

To conclude:

- food XXXXXXX may cause gastritis as part of the allergic reaction but other causes of gastritis are possible as well
- GERD and gastritis are very commonly together- Omeprazole 20-40 mg a day is generally used to help with them
- if gastritis is due to an allergic reaction then it is temporary (only at the time of exposure) and antihistamines such as Benadryl (it may cause drowsiness) or Loratadine can be used.

I hope this answers your query.
