Brief Answer:
nitrocontin is antianginal

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX ,
I am Dr.Rajesh Teli,MD
I have gone through your query.
Nitrocontin is primarily antianginal medicine ,though it may lower BP to some extent.Anginal pain occurs either due to burden of BP on heart and more commonly due to blockage in arteries supplying blood to heart.

So in case of your father if the doctor feels his BP is in control and he has no more angina pain, then we may consider stopping nitrocontin. I would like to have Ecg and echo reports and his history to guide you in this aspect.

My best wishes

Dear Sir

Thanks for the reply, I am not sure how to attach reports here as it does not show any option to add files, so if you could please send your email it would be fine.

regarding his history my Dad, currently age about 73 years is having good health with Grace of God, does yoga regularly, all his blood, sugar, cholestorol, thyroid etc etc routine tests which he gets done once a year from Lalpath Labs are all withing normal range

He has been having some minor blockage detected about 8 years ago when our physician started medicine including Nitrocontin, Clopitab, Amlong MT and Almozar (company names have been changing over the years but salts are basically the same as i have observed)

with this he is ok and not having any problems, recently our physician expired and we shifted to new medico who is a DM Cardiology, nice person, worked with Dr Trehan for short while before shifting to our city.

he did Echo, ECG and said it is ok for his age and no need to carry out any procedure etc, only thing is he wanted to stop nitrocontin and says will see for 10 days if any pain etc so that we can make out how much medicine his body needs

all is well, i am only concerned that as far as i know (i am not a medico though) that most heart patients i know take nitrocontin and if all is going well, why experiment with it so wanted to take opinion

thanks

Brief Answer:
nitrocontine takes care of anginal pain only

Detailed Answer:
hello XXXXXXX
Nitrocontin is basically nitrate group of medicines which controls angina ,in presence of blockages in artery. But it does not modify course of disease or stabilise or reduce blocks.so if your father has no anginal pain we may consider to disontinue.we always aim to give less number of medicines. However there is no harm in continuing it.As per your information if ecg echo are normal,no need to send it to me.Though there is facility to attach them through this web site.
I request you to discuss about statin group of medicine with your cardiologist ,as it does reduce blocks in artery.I don't see this medicine in your list,
hope i have satisfied your query
