Is It Likely It Was Just My Hemorrhoids That Caused The Positive Test?
Question: Hi, I have done 2 seperate FOB tests. The first 3 one was positive. The second test a few weeks later all 3 were negative. I have hemerrhoids and they were bleeding during the first test. Is it likely it was just my hemerrhoids that caused the positive test. I have no other symptoms. Is there anything to worry about?
Brief Answer:
No need to worry!
Detailed Answer:
Hello ,
As 2 out of 3 tests are negative for stool for occult blood very likely because of Hemorrhoids.
So firstly don't worry,
Use preperation H three times daily over Hemorrhoid for 14 days and use a laxative to keep stools soft.
You would be fine in 2 weeks.
Thanks!

Yes one of the first 3 were positive and the next test I did a few weeks later all 3 were negative. So that’s a good sign it’s just my hemerrhoids and nothing serious going on?
I have had loose stools for ages. I go once regularly a day and no other symptoms. Is this a concern? Not diarrhoea just soft loose stools. I have bad anxiety and I’m always thinking the worst.

Ok thanks.
Another online doctor has said I think it’s just hemerrhoids but do a colonoscopy to see whole picture. Makes me worried that it’s something else. I guesss this I just standard procedure and have to do colonoscopy anyway? I’m booked in to do one anyway.
Having all negative FOB test the second time is a good sign that is is only hemerrhoids?
Thanks and sorry for going over it. Your answers are reassuring

Hi,
As a doctor invasive thing for me is last thing I recommend.
Yes off course colonoscopy can be done but atleast 3 to 4 times blood should be positive.
In a patient with just one time bleed with a clear cut history of hemorrhoids doing an invasive procedure is something I won't suggest.
However as you have not mentioned your age.If you are white plus above 50 years of age you can go for a colonoscopy.
But invasion that too unnecessary is not my way of treating patient.
If I would be your primary doctor I would have suggested you to use Preperation H three times a day locally over the Hemorrhoids plus Take Calcium dobusilate 500mg tablet twice a day with laxative for minimum 1 month and in between keep checking blood every third day for 1 month.
See no matter how easy a procedure is..we are introducing a foreign body in our closed system. So invasive procedure for me is my last suggestion.
However as you have already booked it. Go for it and follow up with report.
Don't worry nothing would come out.
Thank you and feel free to follow up!
Good luck.
