Is It Normal For A 4 Month Old Infant To Have Weal Neck?
I need some more information about your grand daughter
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I completely understand your concerns but don't worry. Milestones may vary over a wide range in infants. If she is not able to do the following things then I would recommend you to take her to pediatrician for complete examination and assessment:
-Can’t hold head up when pushing up when on tummy
-Doesn’t respond to loud sounds
-Doesn’t watch things as they move
-Doesn’t smile at people
-Doesn’t bring hands to mouth
Many infants start holding head steadily only by 6 months of age. Premature babies take more time to achieve the milestones as compared to their term born counterparts. Giving babies short tummy times during wake hours help in strengthening the neck muscles required for neck holding. The best time to check any reflex and milestone is when baby's are awake after feeds and active.
It's always better to visit a pediatrician for proper clinical examination and assessment if there is significantly delayed milestone. Pediatrician will assess the overall growth and development of your grand daughter in all spheres (gross and fine motor, verbal, social, cognitive). Further management will be decided accordingly.
Hopefully this will help you. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.
Take care
