Is It Normal For A 8 Month Old To Pass Stool 4 Times A Day?
Her diet is as below,
1) Ragi porridge in the morning (1 small bowl)
2) Rice with veggies and lil dal in the afternoon (1 small bowl)
3) Cerelac in the late evening (1 small bowl)
4) Dexolac milk about 200ml per day.
My concern is she refuses to eat with even the first spoon of food and her bowel movements are 3-4 times a day. Please suggest if i have to alter the diet plan.
Stool frequency normal

Thanks for asking on healthcaremagic. I have gone through the details. Let me assure you that for a child of this age, passing stool 4-8 times a day is equally normal as is passing stool once a week. You need not worry about this so long as the stool is not hard in consistency. The stool may also contain some amount of undigested food matter as the gastrointestinal system is still adapting to the new type of food. It is normal and you need not worry. In case you find the stool to be watery, you may give ORS to replenish for the salts and water lost.
Many children are fussy eaters and deny taking even a spoonful of food in mouth. All you can do is to coax the child to eat in some way or the other. There is no single solution that can be provided.
The diet you have mentioned is proper and you need not change or alter the regimen. You may however add curd or yogurt to the diet. You may also add fruits in grated form or chicken and eggs in boiled and mashed form (provided that you et non-veg items).
Any other advice's on fussiness? Is not normal to say no even from the first bite?
These can be given
Detailed Answer:
Basically what your child needs is a mashed version of the adult diet low on spices. So you can give simply anything at this age. Since the stool is not watery, ORS can be skipped. Milk and dexolac are optional and can gradually be replaced with other nutritive items.
Hard to help you out with the fussiness which is a common problem that many parents face. Coaxing the child in someway or the other is the only option. It is absolutely normal for a child to refuse even the first scoop.
