Is It Normal For An Infant To Pass Yellow Urine, Bad Smelling Gas And Green Stool Every Few Days?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
I have a 2 months old baby, from past 10 days, sometimes she passes yellowish urine and her fart smells really bad, though she is 90% on breastfeed. Moreover, she does potty after every 3-4 days and that is dark greenish in color and is in paste form. Please advice.
Watch for pattern of stool, get stool test done
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Change in color, pattern of stool is very common in this age.
I won't get worried if baby is otherwise active, taking feeds well, passing urine, the stool is not too watery/too hard like pellets and not mixed with blood.
Green colored stool with bad smell can be due to the diet of mother(usually this is transient and improves. Avoid cabbage, garlic, onion, cauliflower, broccoli and spices.
Sometimes excessive dairy product intake by mother also causes increased gas production in baby.
I would suggest you to get stool routine examination done to rule out significant abnormality if any. Constipation in babies can be due to thyroid abnormality(hypothyroidism).
Now a days screening thyroid level is done as a routine. I would like to get thyroid level done if not asked for earlier. You may give probiotics like Enterogermina for 4-5 days. Probiotics help in maintaining healthy microbial system in the gut.
It helps in reducing gastrointestinal discomfort, improving immunity and also decreases constipation.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards
