Question: Hi I am a 45 year old female. I have noticied much more pronounced ovulation pain for the past few years. On day 15 of my cycle I have sharp pains inside my right hip along with a very painful lower back and hip on that side. The pain usually lasts for about a day and can be so bad atimes that I have to lay down for relief. My question is is it normal for ovulation to become more painful as you age and is the pain in my lower back related to ovulation ?

Brief Answer:
Less likely to be due to ovulation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
At your age, it is less likely to have severe ovulation pains. The pain that you have described is more likely to be related to spondylottic changes in the lumbar spine. This can be confirmed after an MRI scan of the spine. Regular exercise of the back muscles can help in reducing the pain if it is not related to ovulation. You can also get an ultrasound scan done during the pain to find out any abdominal issues.
Hope this answer is helpful.
Any further questions are welcome.
