Question: Hi, I had a pap on Monday morning. The first in about 4 yrs. I am 36 and a mother of 4. I started bleeding bright red blood last night and woke up this morning with major cramping and bleeding enough to need a pad. Is this normal? Should I be worried?

Brief Answer:
Please see the detailed answer below.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Bleeding or spotting after pap smear could be normal. Spotting might last up to two days also. But heavy bleeding could be a concern. It could be due to infections / cervical polyps/birth control pills. If the bleeding continues for more than 2 days visit your gynecologist for further evaluation.

Hope my answer helped you. Thanks.
