Is It Normal To Experience Spotting While On Deviry Tablets?

default
Posted on Tue, 18 Aug 2015
Question: i had my periods on 25th XXXXXXX i had minor spotting on 7th July eve and 8th july morning. my GP gave me some medicine which stopped spotting by end of 8th eve but i continued with GPs medicine which was prescribed for 3 days. i visited my Gynaec on 10th of July and carried out sonography of uterus which came out normal. he prescribed deviry 10mg for 15 days starting from 14th day of my period. i started from 10th of July and yesterday night was my 12th tablet of deviry. i am supposed to take one more tablet today night to complete the course for this monthly cycle today morning i have observed some spotting. i am concerned that irrespective of taking deviry how did spotting start? when i asked the Gynaec's asst doctor i was informed this may happen and to take todays tablet if there is spotting but if the flow increases drop taking todays tablet and we ill observe the flow. is it possible to spot or bleed at this stage of taking deviry for 12 days. please answer my query to put my doubts at rest.

Brief Answer:
breakthough bleeding

Detailed Answer:
HELLO,
Thanks for the query to hcm,
Firstly i am not in tune to as to why deviry was started for you without a diagnosis here as the bleeding you had on 7th/8 th could easily be an ovulation bleed. When the ultrasound was normal and there was no endometrial hyperplasia , i feel there was no need to start on deviry at all .
Now that you have started already and on 12th day, spotting is often a common side effect seen especially if teh pill is not taken on time each day and even if there is a delay of more than 2 hrs , then a withdrawal bleed can be noticed as in your case. So suggested that you anyways complete the course and your menses shall anyways start within 7 days of ending the pills. There is no apparent need to be worried at all.

Thank you doctor for you fast reply. Now that you have said I remember to have taken deviry 2-3 hours later than usual time on Saturday night. but could that cause withdrawl spotting on Tuesday late night or Wednesday morn. as of now there is very minor spotting and menses don't seem to have started as of yet.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The withdrawal can occur in next 6-8 hrs in form of spotting. If you continue teh course then it may stop as well for another day but shall resume once deviry is completely stop again in full flow within next 7 days( this being the upper limit).Hence advised you to complete the course as just 2 tab are left and tehn you can wait for your menstrual withdrawal.

Detailed Answer:
hello,
please don't be worried about the continuation of bleeding as this is the start of menses which were not controlled by the next 2 days of medication, so please don't be worried.
