Is It Normal To Take Different Medications For High BP?

High blood pressure is related to excess fluid or blood volume and the resistance to blood flow within the blood vessels.
The high fluid volume is the reason that diuretics are used to encourage the loss of fluid by urination.
Other high blood pressure medication used different means to reduce the resistance in the blood vessels. They do this by using varying methods to cause the blood vessels to relax or dilate.
There are also blood pressure medications that reduce the work of the heart by slowing the heart rate.
It is common for persons to be on at least 2 high blood pressure medications and definitely not unusual for a person to be on 3 or more.
Medications with different mechanisms of action are used. They work in different ways to reduce the pressure.
Though it is possible that a person may experience increased side effects of medications with increasing number of medications , it has been found that the risk of complications due to high blood pressure is higher.
Most medical guidelines advise strict control of blood pressure to reduce the chance of any complications.
If you experience side effects due to any of the medications then you can consider speaking to your doctor who can change to another one.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
