Question: Hi Doctor.. I have a question as i am doubtful.

I live in a sharing 2 bedroom apartment with sharing kitchen and toilet.

My second room partner is an old lady and she recently moved into my apartment.l and she has kidney issue disease for which she needs dialysis to be done.

Therefore, Is it ok to share kitchen and toilet with a person who has this kidney dialysis issue?

Because i am healthy person and I dont hve any such problem and I really do not want to get one from the other person.

Pls confirm should I move or i am safe to stay with her.

Brief Answer:
Hi,

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Though, the patients on dialysis are definitely more prone to infections. Also, the care giver of such patients are at some risk of getting infections from these patients, due to prolonged exposure to the contaminated enviroment, particularly if adequate safety measures are not taken.
Definitely, you are also at some increased risk of getting some infection from this patient.
However, this can be minimised to almost nil, if both of you have no prolonged & intimate exposure to each other & if both of you observe proper hygienic maintainance. In this case, complete proper sanitation of your toilet seat after each time use is necessary.
With proper safety measures, just by sharing the kitchen & toilet seat, should not increase your chances of getting infections substantially. However, marginally increased chances of getting infections can never be ruled out in such cases even with proper safety precautions.
