Is It Okay For My Kids And I To Sleep In The House With The Burnt Plastic Smell?

Question: Hi, I accidentally preheated the oven with a Tupperware lid inside and it melted completely. I took the oven racks outside and got most of the burnt plastic out but still feel lightheaded by the smell. Is it okay for my kids and I to sleep in the house with the burnt plastic smell? So scared they are breathing in toxic fumes!

Brief Answer:
Hope you have a good health

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I am sorry to hear about this. Plastic burning can release hydrogen cyanide that can cause poisoning. Prolong plastic burn exposures, the effect can be long-term and irreversible. Make sure you open all of the windows in your house to get proper airflow circulating. This can help to remove the harmful chemicals and smoke particles in the air. You should not expose it too long but if you can remove it with opening airflow it can be safe for you and your child.

I hope that I could be of help to you today. Please let me know if you need any clarification. If you have any more questions, I will discuss them with you further. Wishing you good health.
