Is It Possible For The Dentist To Remove Some Filling Without Making The Tooth Hurt Even Worse?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Oct 2024
Question: During a routine exam, an oral surgeon commented that one tooth has "too heavy a filling" and that my general dentist may be able to remedy that. The tooth is somewhat uncomfortable but not overly painful. Is it possible for the dentist to remove some filling without making the tooth hurt even worse?

Brief Answer:
Removing high points from filling can reduce discomfort.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for the query.

Well, if you have over filled tooth then removing the excess can reduce discomfort and pain.

But you should get an x ray done first to confirm that the discomfort is due to over filling only or any other problems.

Accordingly further advise can be given.

Please right back for more questions.

Thanks

I have an acylic crown that needs to be re-affixed with temp cement at the dentist's office.
I need to go from there to the perio who will be doing some gum work in the area. Would u know approx how long it takes for most temp cements to harden to keep tooth secure?

I have a premolar on the bottom left that the dentist feels by the x-ray does have overfill since it is sensitive and hurting. He did do some work on it about a week ago where he drilled both the top of the tooth and also the side of the tooth to place some medication. My question is:
To lessen the sensitivity in this tooth, would he have to again drill the side of this tooth or only the top to remove some filling material?

Brief Answer:
Most probably the top of filling has to be trimmed

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for writing back.

The Dentist need to trim the filling and not the tooth to reduce high points.

Hope this helps.
Thanks
