Is It Possible To Ascertain Ovulation Date When Having Irregular Periods?

Posted on Mon, 23 Mar 2015
Question: My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for a good 6 months now. I have a very irregular periods so it's been hard to track my ovulation. I have read a few articles online that said that if you get on the birth control pill it will help regulate your period and ovulation and make it easier to get pregnant. I guess I was just wanting a professional opinion of this subject.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Get a ultrasound scan done

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
I understand your concern..

First you should get a ultrasound scan done to see for any uterine or ovarian pathology.. Get a semen analysis done..

If periods are irregular due to Polycystic ovaries, yes, oral contraceptive pills can be taken for 3 months to regularise the periods..

But since you are desiring for pregnancy, I would suggest to take ovulation induction drug from day 2 of the periods for 5 days and follow up with follicular study to know the exact time of ovulation.. This is the time you should have intercourse to attain maximum chance for pregnancy.. After 3 months of trial, you can go for intrauterine insemination..

Hope I have answered your query.. Feel free to ask any doubts.. Good day..
