Is It Possible To Get Herpes Infection In The Mouth Area?

Question: if I have type 1 herpes in the genital area can I get type 1 on the mouth from someone who has it there
Brief Answer:
HSV Type 1 can be transmitted to other's mouth by kissing
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
HSV Type1 usually manifest in and around the angle of mouth or nasolabial folds. When an individual received oral sex from a person who have HSV 1 infection, it would likely be to transmited to the genitals of the receiver. So
HSV 1 can occur over genitals whereas the HSV type 2 is unlikely to manifest other than anogenital area.
Similarly one can get HSV1 infection over the mouth and lip during kissing with an individual who has HSV 1 infection.

Person A : hsv 1 genitals
Person B : hav 1 mouth
Can they cause breakouts of the hsv 1 virus in the areas that do not breakout with each respective partner?

Brief Answer:
It is possible for a super-infection with HSV1
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
HSV 1 antibodies would not offer a total immunity. So it is possible to get a new infection. Someone who has genital HSV 1 infection can get a fresh infection over the angle of mouth or lip from another person who has either HSV 1 infection over mouth (kissing) or over genitals (oral sex).
