Is It Safe To Break Oxycodone 80mg In Half And Have It?
Question: My girlfriend has chopped up an 80 mg extended release tablet into 8 pieces and has taken one of them. She usually takes 10 mg every 4 hrs for pain daily but I was told not to cut the extended release tablets into pieces. Is this going to be the same as her taking her regular dose of 10 mg since she has chopped the 80 mg into 8ths?

It is not recommended to chop the extended release into pieces. It is meant to be taken as such in a single tablet form as it has its own mechanism of action and pharmacodynamics.
Suggestion is to discard the tablet pieces and take her medicine as she regularly takes as 10 mg in full tablet form.

Thank you. I understand that they should be discarded and will do that. I am more concerned about her well being from the one she has already taken of the oxycodone er. Does she need to go to the hospital? She seems ok right now.
