If your wife had her LMP on 26th dec, then by naegle's formula she is 6 weeks and 3 days pregnant , though the ultrasonological age is always lesser than the gestational age as LMP is always used to calculate the period of gestation by rule.
The cardiac activity in foetus is generally seen between 5-7 weeks of gestation depending in the value of hcg in blood which if more than 5000IU , the metal cardiac activity should be seen.
As it was confirmed by ultrasound earlier in the day , then the doctor furnished a doubt on the confirmation, which is possible due to observatory bias during obstetric ultrasound, hence the scan can be repeated after 2 weeks when gestation would be 7 weeks ultrasonologically and the heart beat can be seen more easily.
Secondly , no form of antibiotic should be advised or taken during the first trimester of gestation , as it may increase the chances of congenital defects in the foetus. So , generally conservative means like steam inhalation and saline warm water gargles should be used as conservative treatment methods and not antibiotics like cefuroxime , which should be avoided in early pregnancy.
