Is It Safe To Exercise When Diagnosed With Leaky Heart Valves And Pulmonary Hypertension?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Sep 2015
Question: Hi, I am a 68 year old woman who has just been told that I have 3 leaky heart valves and pulmonary hypertension. My G.P. sent a letter to a cardiologist for me to see. I cannot see him until November 16th. As I thought I would get an appointment right away I did not ask my G.P. any questions. I thought I would ask the cardiologist. In the meantime I feel like I am in limbo. I do not knot what I can do and what I cannot do. Is this a serious condition or can I just get on with my life. I get very short of breath when doing minimal amount. Can I have sex, can I fly, can I exercise. Please help

Brief Answer:
May involve in activities not producing breathlessness

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
Please upload the complete Echocardiogram report so that I can give you better advice. I would like to see your EKG and any medicine you are on. In the meanwhile you can do activities that do not make you breathless. As to flying there would be a mild drop in your oxygen saturation at that height even though the cabin is pressurized. Normally it does not produce much of a problem.
Best wishes,
