Is It Safe To Give Paleo Diet With No Diary To An Infant?

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Apr 2015
Question: Hi Dr Rynne, My daughter has put her 18 month old child on the Paleo Diet, that being no grains, no dairy, and no sugar. Her baby's skin is going darker and I feel that she is getting too much of a vitamin. We argue about this and my daughter will not give the baby dairy. Is there something wrong with the baby already or what can I do? Thanking you XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Diet

Detailed Answer:
Hello. I just read through your question.
This is always a difficult situation. The best we can do is advise. It is ultimately the parent's decision. Dairy is required for calcium, vitamin D and the fat. The fat is actually necessary to help develop the nervous system. Whole milk is recommended until at least age 2 years.
If the baby is thriving, this is the most important tjing. However dairy is important. Hopefully the parents will change their approach.
