Is It Safe To Have Ashwagandha Along With Celexa?
Question: I am currently taking Celexa for Depression. I was also taking Ashwagandha in addition for about two months and felt really good. Then I ran out of the Ashwagandha and since I am now not working, was not able to buy any more. My older daughter gave me some of hers but wanted me to make sure it was OK to take both together. Can you please let me know if this is OK?
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Have to be cautious even though there is no documented interaction
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query.
Celexa is an anti depressant of the SSRI group.
Ashwagandha is used as an “adaptogen” to help the body cope with daily stress, and as a general tonic.
Aswagandha has interaction with sedatives of the Benzodiazepine group but the interaction with SSRI is not documented.
So you have to be cautious in taking Aswagandha with celexa even though there is no documented interaction.
