Is It Safe To Have CT Scan When Having A Pacemaker?

Question: For Radiologist or Cardiologist Only
The patient has a permanent pacemaker and is moderate candidate for an MRI. We will proceed with CT angiogram of the renal arteries with contrast

The above worries me with a pacemaker, can one of the Drs. clarify for me.

Hello ,
Yes the CT angiography is perfectly safe for a patient who has an Permanent pacemaker . It doesn't matter whether it's MRI compatibLe or not , as an MRI creates a magnetic field which can harm the circuitry and leads of the pacemaker while CT scan uses X ray for pictures which doesn't do so .
The use of contrast depends on the kidney status of the patient and Pacemaker does change that .
