Is It Safe To Have Phenergan For Cold And Cough?
Question: Hi, My kid is 1 year old wt 8.4 kg. She is having cold running nose and cough. sometimes fever due to that. Month back when she had same symptoms doctor has given T minic. now She has given Phenergan. I read on net that Phenergan is not same below 2 yrs. Should i discontinue phenergan and give Tminic?
Brief Answer:
Tminic is more better
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,welcome to HCM forum.
As you told,it is better to avoid phenergan(promethazine) in children below 2 years.
This is because, although not common, there is a chance of severe respiratory depression with phenergan in this age group.
Tminic contains antihistamine CPM, that is more safer in small kids.
Also note that, if fever persist after 2 days of treatment, we will need to add antibiotics too.Your doctor will guide in this.
Hope I have answered your query.
You can ask further questions if any.
Thank you.
Regards,
Dr Muhammed Aslam.

So can i stop pheneragan nd start giving t minic
Brief Answer:
Yes
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
As I already told, you can give t minic(same dose as prescribed earlier) instead of phenergan.
But,keep an interval of at least 12 hours between the two to avoid excessive sedation.
Hope you got cleared.
