Is It Safe To Take Augmentin And Clindamycin For Parotits During Menstruation?

Question: Is it safe to take Augmentin + Clindamycin for Parotits during Period?
Brief Answer:
Information
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,
Yes, it is safe to take antibiotics while having one's menstrual period.
Given that you are taking 2 antibiotics, there is more chance of these killing some of your good bacteria in the colon and vagina, and so (regardless of whether you are having a menstrual period or not), I recommend taking a probiotic to help provide more good bacteria. Avoid taking the probiotic within an hour or two of the antibiotic (you can take them same day but not same time). If you are able, eat yogurt also as most yogurts are rich in probiotics.

Hi,
I have uploaded some picture of the painful areas, swelling. Can you please advise if augmentin and clindamycin are the right choice for bacterial infection around this area? Pain around there has been for more than 1 month now. Ruled out viral infection. Thanks.

The areas that your finger is on in the pictures would go with parotitis, but it should be diagnosed in person with an exam.
When possible, it's best, before starting antibiotics, for a doctor to swab the duct and send the swab for culture and antibiotic sensitivity test. Once swabbed, antibiotics can be started while waiting for the culture to come back. And Augmentin and Clindamycin are good antibiotics for treating the usual bacteria that cause parotitis. Treatment is usually 10-14 days.
Sometimes parotitis is due to particles that get trapped in the parotid duct and need to be removed by a doctor. If there is a lot of swelling, sometimes steroids are used to decrease inflammation. If there are any dental problems (cavities or infections), that should be treated too. Make sure to keep well hydrated, too.
Given how long you have been dealing with this, if you have not already seen an otolaryngologist (ear nose throat specialist doctor), I advise you do so now.

Can i take prednisolone for a week to reduce swelling fast? Each time I take prednisolone, within a day or two, I get swollen feet for fluid retention most likely. Should I be worried if I take prednisolone for only a week? What does usually suggested for prednisolone for swelling? Thanks.
Brief Answer:
Thoughts on this
Detailed Answer:
If prednisolone causes you to have swollen feet, then you should probably avoid it or have a smaller dose and avoid salt as much as possible while taking it.
Prednisolone or other steroids won't treat the underlying problem, they just decrease inflammation. The source of the problem of your enlarged parotid gland area needs to be addressed by a specialist ear-nose-throat doctor (otolaryngologist).
