Question: I need to know, because my husband has a severe back ache if it is ok to take Ibuprofen with
GILIPIZIOE
CLOPIDOGREL
QUINAPRIL
Janument
Allopurinol
Brief Answer:
caution advised
Detailed Answer:
there is a risk of bleeding by taking ibuprofen (or any NSAID) together with plavix. You would be particularly at risk of developing gastric or small bowel ulcers that can bleed, even to the point of requiring blood transfusions.
You can take small doses of ibuprofen (not more than 400mg a day), but i would suggest you taking at the same time an anti-acid such as ranitidine in order to protect the stomach from ulcers. Anti-acids still would not protect you a 100% from ulcers and/or bleeding.
Also keep in mind that ibuprofen together with quinapril increases the risk of renal toxicity and kidney problems. A single dose of ibuprofen should not be a problem, but be very careful.
I would suggest you trying instead plain acetaminophen (tylenol), which has no interactions or problems with your meds, otherwise ask your doctor for a prescribed alternative.
hope that helped
