Brief Answer:
Probably safe to take

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thank you for using Healthcare Magic. Glutamine is an amino acid that is usually produced in the body. In some cases where adequate glutamine is not being made, supplements are used. Glutamine supplements are sometimes used in people with AIDS who have the wasting syndrome, or people receiving chemotherapy to reduce some of the side effects. It may provide support to the immune system in these cases. If you are getting an adequate diet and don't have any significant medical problems, supplements will probably not be of much benefit. If you are finding glutamine at 1000 mg is helping your irritable colon, you are probably okay in taking this amount daily.

Not many medical studies have been done on glutamine, so its true safety and degree of side effects are not known. It may interfere with the action of some antiseizure medicine, so it's probably best to avoid it if you have seizures and/or are taking seizure medicine. It may also aggravate symptoms of confusion in people with liver failure. Its effect in pregnancy is not known so best avoided during that time.

Glutamine has been used for moodiness, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, ADHD, ulcers, sickle cell anemia, alcoholism, and other conditions, but there is no clinical evidence to either support or contradict its use in those conditions. Hope this answers your query. If you have further questions, I would be happy to answer them.
