Question: I did a urine test that showed I have a trace of ketones in my urine. Is it safe to take metformin when I have trace of ketones?
Brief Answer:
Switch to insulin needed
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
No in case of ketosis, metformin should be stopped and insulin should be started till ketosis subsides. Because metformin itself causes lactic acidosis and may further complicate the situation.
