The drug interaction website sais that taking Prednisone w/Naproxen could ruin the lining of the stomach. Is that true??
Brief Answer:
side effect. rare for.acute therapy
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I like to explain the mechanism that happens for better undestanding.
For management of any inflammation, prostaglandin production or its action should be reduced. All NSAIDs like acetaminophen, naproxen, ibuprofen etc. will act by reducing the prostaglandin production which is a protective barrier in stomach. So the chance of gastritis (gastric mucosal damage) is present. Steroids like prednisone will also reduce prostaglandin production. So these drugs act as anti inflammatory agents but can cause side effects.
The side effect can occur with single drug or if not occured with single drug (naproxen) then with combination is rare. More over for acute therapy the side effects are very rare. If you are already suffering from gastritis then take drugs like ranitidine or pantoprazole which will reduce gastric acid secretion and hence there won't be any problem.
I hope this information helps you to know about the side effect you are concerned about. Wish you good health.

Thanks, Doc! I don't have any gastic issues. So the bottom line is that the side affects of taking Prednisone w/Naproxen is negligible, correct??
Brief Answer:
yes. no need to worry much.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
yes. For side effects it's very difficult to tell which side effects may occur in each individual. We can tell the probable side effects that may occur based on previous experience. Based on my experience I have rarely seen this side effect in normal individual.
So in summary it's a rare side effect and no need to worry much before taking the drug. If you experience any problems then can stop the drug. You can prevent this occurrence by taking gastric acid suppressants.
I hope this helps you to know about the side effects and your concern.
I wish you good health. Feel free to ask for any further queries and I will be glad to answer them.
