Question: I am 56 year old. I am diabetic and also taking medicine for high blood pressure. My question is that I was diagnosed with high cholesterol 2 years back. Doctor advised me to take Rozavel 10 mg. For the last 2 years I am taking Rozavel 10 mg and my current Cholesterol levels are : HDL 46, LDL 83, Triglycerides 233, TC/HDL Ratio 3.5, LDL/HDL Ratio 1.8, VLDL Cholesterol 46.64. Do I continue to take Rozavel 10 mg. Is it safe to take Rozavel 10 mg for such a long period. Or do I need to take some other medicine. Please advise and prescribe.

My recent blood test reports are attached for your perusal please.

Brief Answer:
You should Change to Rozavel F

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Gone through your reports. Noted following abnormalities.
Firstly, for your lipid profile, your parameters are fine except triglycerides which are elevated. So you should change to Rozavel F (10/160) bedtime which will also keep your triglycerides under check. Also, needs to restrict oily, fatty food and have regular exercises. You should have it on long term basis and significant side effects are less likely now as you have tolerated it well till the time. This medicine also have much beneficial effects other than lipid lowering, so it's better to continue it.
Your vit D is on lower side, so should have supplements like Tab Uprise D3 60,000 units once a week for eight weeks then once a month for six months.
Also, HBA1c is elevated, which indicates sugar control over last three months, which is not very good. So you get your fasting and post lunch sugar levels done and if elevated then medicines dose needs to be increased.
GGT is elevated which is likely due to fatty liver which is likely to being overweight or alcohol if any. So needs to focus on weight loss if overweight. Its better to get ultrasound abdomen done to look for fatty liver and to rule out other causes.
Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX for your advise. How long do I take Rozavel F? Please advise.

I have already consulted an Endocrinologist who has changed my diabetes dose from Gluconorm SR 1G twice daily to Gluconorm 1G Forte twice daily. I am also taking Bon D K60 for the last 6 weeks.

Brief Answer:
It should be continued life long

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
ok.. Rozavel F should be continued life long as these problems are not curable, but can be kept under control only, so medicines need to be continued through out the life. However, say after a period of six months or year we may reduce to plain Rozavel if triglycerides are well within limits. For that, you should get your lipid profile after 6 months or a year. All the best.
