Answered by Dr. Manuel C See IV (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Take it for 3 days

Detailed Answer:
Good Day and thank you for being with Healthcare Magic!

Macrobid or more commonly called nitrofurantoin is a good urinary antibiotic since it is concentrated on the urinary tract and does not affect other bacteria in other organ systems.

This is prescribed for uncomplicated UTIs and is given for 3 days (minimum).

Are my labs consistent w UTI or STD? Only positive for the leukocytes
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manuel C See IV (10 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Pls see detailed report.

Detailed Answer:
thank you for follow up question.

If you are symptomatic then I would consider it as a mild UTI. if you are not feeling anything then I would recommend not to drink the antibiotic.

I am not convinced you have UTI with your urinalysis. To confirm an infection we would need a urine culture.

Could this be an indication of STD not uti?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manuel C See IV (16 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
STD is unlikely diagnosis for you

Detailed Answer:
Possibly it can be but since you don't have any symptoms then diagnosis of STD is unlikely at this time. If you are worried about STD and feel that you are at risk, there are specific confirmatory tests to rule this out (e.g, Chlamydia, RPR, Gonorrhea, Hep B, HIV )
In my opinion, you may just have a nonspecific inflammation in your urinary tract that is non infectious in origin. Since you already started nitrofurantoin, I suggest continue it to complete 3 days and repeat urinalysis after a week.

Only symptom is a little pelvic pressure
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manuel C See IV (8 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Pelvic pressure is a nonspecific symptom

Detailed Answer:
Pelvic pressure is a nonspecific symptom. It can be part of the inflammation in the bladder or it can just be a muscle pain.
After you have completed the nitrofurantoin and done with the urinalysis we will know if further work up should be done.

Is Cipro dangerous? I am feeling quite ill on Macrobid
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manuel C See IV (3 hours later)
Brief Answer:
It is safe and you may shift to ciprofloxacin.

Detailed Answer:
Ciprofloxacin has a greater antibiotic coverage as compared to Macrobid anday affect other bacteria in the body like in the colon etc.

Ciprofloxacin is widely used and is considered by many as the standard treatment for UTIs. If you are having trouble with Macrobid then it is safe to shift to Ciprofloxacin without any sequlae.

How long after 3 days course of Macrobid for it to totally leave my system ?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manuel C See IV (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
Halflife of nitrofurantoin is 0.3-1 hr.

Detailed Answer:
the active ingredient of macrobid is nitrofurantoin. The half life of the drug is very short, it is 0.3-1hr meaning in a day it would have been completely out of your system.

It is a safe drug and won't cause problem.

Detailed Answer:
Good Day and thank you for being with Healthcare Magic!

Nitrofurantoin is a safe drug and doesn't cause harm especially if the dosage is correct. The half life is very short and is completely out of your system in one day.

It will not cause any harm to your body.

I stopped taking it 4 days ago & I still feel nauseaus and sometimes I feel like I can still taste it, is that possible?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manuel C See IV (12 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
No it is not possible.

Detailed Answer:
I am very sorry to hear that you are feeling nauseous. It wouldn't be possible since the drug has already been degraded by the body starting day1.

You may have a different disease for your nausea and you may need to consult your primary physician to be examined.
