detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

PAD (Peripheral artery disease) is a condition that causes narrowing of the arteries in the peripheral part of the body ,most likely in the legs.In this case the area of the body that are supplied with blood from these narrowed arteries don't receive enough blood as the process progress with time ,causing ischemia which is responsible for the symptoms.
The cause of the narrowing is the formation of atherosclerosis plaques in the wall of arteries. This is the same process that happens with time in the arteries that supply the heart muscle (coronary arteries) causing heart attack.

For this reason the risk of heart attack is increased in people suffering from PAD because there is the same process occurring in peripheral arteries and coronary arteries. The risk factors are the same.

If the arteries of your heart are narrowed ,the risk of heart attack during the procedure increases.First all the risk factors should be treated like :
-Quite smoking
-Lower the level of lipids in blood (if lipids are over normal range). For this your doctor has prescribed you Lipitor (Atorvastatin).
-Preventing blood clots by taking daily Aspirin .

Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any other question or doubts to clarify.I will be happy to help.

Kind regards,
Dr.Rovena Murati
